MonaLisa Touch Q & A

What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is an FDA approved vaginal laser treatment that helps stimulate collagen -- the protein responsible for the strength, flexibility, and lubrication of your vaginal walls -- production to restore vaginal health. Treatment can reverse vaginal atrophy, reduce discomfort, and bring pleasure back to the bedroom.

What can MonaLisa Touch treat?

Dr. Pam uses MonaLisa Touch to treat a number of conditions, including:

  • Vulvar itching
  • Stress urinary incontinence and overactive bladder
  • Painful intercourse and vaginal burning
  • Vaginal prolapse, when the organs in the pelvic region fall
  • Post-radiation and post-chemotherapy vaginal changes
  • Lichen sclerosus of the vulvar, which is the appearance of white spots on the vulva

What can I expect during treatment with MonaLisa Touch?

To ease discomfort, Dr. Pam begins MonaLisa Touch treatment by placing a topical anesthetic on your vulva and vaginal opening.

Once the anesthetic has had time to work, Dr. Pam gently inserts the MonaLisa Touch probe deeply into your vagina. She activates the probe and slowly pulls it out of your vagina, ensuring the laser has access to all of your vaginal skin.

Dr. Pam then replaces the vaginal probe with the external probe to treat the outer genitalia, including the vulva.

The entire treatment takes about five minutes.

How many treatments do I need?

While you may notice an improvement in vaginal health after the first treatment, Dr. Pam recommends three treatments over a 12 week period to get the best results.

What happens after MonaLisa Touch treatment?

Dr. Pam won’t let you go home until she knows you’re ready, but there’s no need for any downtime after treatment with MonaLisa Touch, and there’s no discomfort so you won’t need to take any pain medication.

She does, however, recommend you avoid activities that might put pressure on the vulva, including sexual intercourse, for about three to four days.

After you’ve completed treatment, the results last up to a year. To maintain vaginal health, Dr. Pam recommends you come in for annual touch-up treatments.
